Borkum Riffgrund 1

Service contract: Vessel supplier CWind will provide corrosion protection, latchway inspections and snagging services at Dong Energy’s Borkum Riffgrund 1.

CWind was active at the North Sea project site earlier this year, providing temporary power services to the 312MW development.

Installation of the project was completed in May and is due to be fully completed by the end of the summer.

The project is located 44 kilometres off the German coast in the North Sea.

Borkum Riffgrund 1 is majority owned by Dong (50%), with the remaining share being owned by Danish investment firms Kirkbi (32%) and William Demant Invest (18%). 17-Aug-15

Neart Na Gaoithe

Turbine specification: Mainstream Renewable Power has applied to vary the consent granted for Neart na Gaoithe.

An increase in the maximum turbine capacity from 6MW to 7MW is being sought, alongside a change in the maximum turbine hub height from 107.5 metres to 115 metres, platform height from 18 metres to 21 metres and consequential variations to the turbine rotation speed and range of speed at blade tip.

Siemens’ SWT-6.0-154 turbines had been pencilled in for the 450MW project. Marine Scotland will carry out formal consultation in relation to the variation application. 18-Aug-15

Wikinger

Foundations progress: Bladt Industries has completed the first of 82 A-frames that will form parts of the 41 four-legged jacket foundations to be installed at Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger project.

Spanish firm Navantia will supply the other 29 jacket foundations to the project, which is planned for a site in the Baltic Sea.

It will consist of 70 Adwen 5MW turbines. 20-Aug-15

Saint George’s Bay

Financial help: Developer Beothuk Energy has enlisted Toronto-based Jacob Securities to identify project financing for its planned 180MW project in St. George’s Bay, east Canada.
