Borkum West 2
Turbines connected: The 200MW first phase of Borkum West 2 (Trianel Windpark Borkum) has entered trial operations.
All 40 Adwen 5MW turbines (formerly Areva) have now been commissioned.
Tests are under way and commercial operations are expected to begin in August.
VBMS (formerly VSMC) also completed the repair of an inter-array cable at the project. The defective cable was removed and a replacement installed, buried, terminated and tested.
Installation was completed a year ago, but start up was delayed by the DolWin1 grid link not being completed on time. 17-Jul-15
Westermeerwind
Cables installed: VBMS has completed the installation of 48 inter-array cables at Westermeerwind.
Termination work should be completed in early August. Offshore construction activities began at the site in March 2015.
The 146MW wind farm — the nearshore part of Noordoostpolder — is being built in the IJsselmeer. It is due to come online by mid-February 2016. 17-Jul-15
Nobelwind
Inter-array installation: DeepOcean has been awarded the inter-array cables installation contract at the 165MW Nobelwind (Bligh Bank Phase II) project off Belgium.
DeepOcean’s scope includes pre-lay surveys, installation and trenching of 50 array cables.
The firm will also design and supply of the cable protection systems, installation and trenching of a coupling cable between Nobelwind and the 165MW Belwind I project.
DeepOcean will also pull in and trench the pre-installed export cable and carry out all associated design and engineering activities.
In June, Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime were contracted to supply the offshore substation to the 165MW offshore project.
Design and engineering works have already started and offshore work will begin in Q3 2016. 20-Jul-15
Burbo Bank Extension
Onshore transformers: Two onshore transformers for Dong Energy’s Burbo Bank Extension were delivered to the Port of Mostyn, north Wales.
They will be installed at the substation site nearby in St Asaph. Dong contracted UK firm Balfour Beatty to developer the site for the onshore substation. Construction at the site began in March 2015.
Planned for a site in Liverpool Bay and due for completion in 2017, the 256MW project is an extension of the 90MW Burbo Bank. It is set to be the first offshore project to use MHI-Vestas’ V164-8MW turbines. 22-Jul-15
