Block Island
Jacket load-out: Deepwater Wind’s 30MW Block Island project is on track to have “steel in the water” by late-July.
The first load-out from Gulf Island Fabrication in Louisiana, southern US, was completed in June. The first two jacket foundations and one of the decks were loaded onto a barge.
Construction of the foundations began in May and the project is expected to be completed in 2016. The project will comprise five Alstom Haliade 6MW turbines.
The barge is set to arrive at the project site in Rhode Island, northeast US, in mid-July. The project is looking likely to become the first offshore wind project in the US.

Westermost Rough
Officially inaugurated: Dong Energy’s Westermost Rough project has been officially opened at a ceremony in Grimsby, north east England.
The project reached full output in May after 16 months of construction.
The 210MW wind farm – a joint venture between Dong (50%), Marubeni Corporation (25%) and the UK Green Investment Bank (25%) – lies in the North Sea, eight kilometres off the UK’s east coast.
It is the first commercial project to use Siemens’ 6MW turbine. 1-Jul-15
Veja Mate
Foundations contract: A joint venture between Bladt Industries and EEW Special Pipe Constructions has been awarded a contract by Offshore Windforce VM VOF to supply Veja Mate’s 67 monopile foundations.
Offshore Windforce is joint venture formed by Volker Stevin International and Boskalis Offshore Marine Contracting.
EEW will fabricate the 67 monopiles in Rostock, north Germany, while Bladt Industries will fabricate the 67 transition pieces in Aalborg, Denmark.
Fabrication will commence this autumn and continue until the second half of 2016, with the first load out scheduled for the end of Q2 2016.
The 402MW Veja Mate is planned for a site in the German North Sea, around 129 kilometres offshore.
Project owner, Highland Group Holdings, gave a final investment decision on the project at the end of June. 2-Jul-15
Gemini
Foundation installation: Van Oord has installed the first of Gemini’s 150 monopile foundations from the Aeolus.
Swire Blue Ocean’s Pacific Osprey is also being deployed at the North Sea project site, 85 kilometres off Groningen.
The project is due to be fully operational by 2017. The 600MW project is owned by Northland Power (60%), Siemens (20%), Van Oord (10%) and HVC (10%). 2-Jul-15
